Hunt of a life
time!!
I wanted to share my story of the hog hunt on 05/2/2010 with
my
brand new .458 Quackenbush air rifle. I bought my Quackenbush at the
Arkansas Airgun show on Friday, April 30, scoped it on Saturday and
killed this large boar on Sunday.
I was able to get close and shadow a large group of 15 to 20 hogs
for 75 yards or more until I was able to get withing
30 yards of them. I ended up being pinned down for over an hour as they
moved all around me and getting within 20-25 yards of me at times.
There was an even larger boar than this one that I never could get a
shot at. Half the group was positioned on top of a small mound blocking
my view and my chance of approaching closer for a shot at the ones just
behind them.
This 330 pound boar moved into view on top of the mound and I took a 38
yard shot using a BHD 265 grain WFN bullet. He went about 30 yards
and lay down. I ended up pushing him another 30 yards and
finished
him off with a 10 yard shot. The first bullet was recovered and because
of the angle of both my shot and him being more than quartered away,
the bullet traveled at an angle up and into his spine. The damage to
the spine was unreal. This hog wasn't going far!!
Then the fun began of trying to drag him out. What a beast
this
hog was!!!
Thank you,
Todd
